Revision of Forest Foundation Skills qualification
National Certificate in Forest Foundation Skills (Level 2) with strands in Establishment, Pruning, Chainsaw Operations, Breaking Out, and Landing Operations [Ref: 1410]
The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has revised the qualification above.
Date new version published January 2011
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.
Reason for the revision
This revision was prompted by the review of FITEC chainsaw standards 6917 and 23411. Standard 6917 is intended for entry level users and standard 23411 for chainsaw users within a commercial forestry operation. An elective section has been added to the Chainsaw Operations Strand of this qualification to provide the option of completing either standard 6917 or standard 23411. The option to complete either of these standards better reflects the intent of this qualification which is for those wishing to gain work in forestry or employees already working in a commercial forestry operation.
Main changes resulting from the revision
The total credits for this qualification have decreased due to the review of standards in the qualification. The expiring first aid standards have been replaced by the newly developed first aid standards. An elective section has been added to the Chainsaw Operations Strand of this qualification and is made up of standard 23411 and standard 6917.
