The Communications and Media Industry Training Organisation (CMITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          July 2011

Planned review date                                                                           December 2016

Summary

These unit standards were reviewed to ensure they remained relevant to industry and to clarify anomalies that had arisen within the assessment criteria.  Feedback was sought from industry representatives, providers, and assessors via meetings and electronic consultation.

The review identified that the unit standards were too prescriptive which was causing problems with both providers and assessors.  It was also determined that in many cases the unit standards no longer met the requirements of industry due to continuing changes in technology and the profession in general.

Through peer review, feedback, and discussion, changes were made to titles, credit values, explanatory notes, entry requirements, outcomes, evidence requirements, and ranges as required, reflecting current best practice, the need for flexibility of delivery, and clarification of assessment.  These changes have resulted in replacement unit standards being developed for these Level 5 unit standards.

Main changes

·      All reviewed unit standards were replaced by new unit standards to better reflect industry requirements and clarify assessment conditions.

·      Replacement unit standards were all classified under the Journalism Skills domain.

·      A new unit standard was developed for producing a video news story package to cover an identified gap in this area.

Category C unit standards will expire at the end of December 2014.
