The InfraTrain New Zealand has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published July 2011
Planned review date December 2016
Summary
InfraTrain New Zealand and the Agriculture Industry Training Organisation Water Industry Training advisory group have worked together to review unit standards and qualifications covering the installation of new infrastructure pipes and the planned and reactive maintenance of infrastructure pipes.
Significant changes have been made to qualification structures covering the installation and maintenance of infrastructure pipes to better reflect the learning and career pathway of technicians working in this sector. As a result of the review of the unit standards listed above, replacement unit standards, as well as a new unit standard, have been developed by a wide range of sector stakeholders including territorial and local authorities who often specify qualifications or unit standards as part of their region's engineering standards, which companies must comply with to work on infrastructure assets.
Main changes
· References to excavation and reinstatement have been removed; these components are the focus of a new qualification and a specifically developed set of unit standards currently under development and planned for registration later in 2011.
· Credit values have been reduced to reflect the removal of the excavation and reinstatement components.
· Two replacement unit standards and one new unit standard have been developed to reflect the change in content and an identified industry gap.
· The change in classification system structure made last year has been applied to the replacement unit standards which will be registered in the new Generic Infrastructure Works domain in the Infrastructure Works subfield.
· As a result of the combined InfraTrain and Agriculture ITO review Unit 27327, Handle and install pipes and fittings for infrastructure pipelaying, and carry out follow-up procedures, has been recommended as an alternative standards for expiring Agriculture Unit 24920, Excavate and lay pipes, and reinstate trench for water reticulation.
Category C unit standards will expire at the end of December 2016
