The Communications and Media Industry Training Organisation (CMITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          July 2011

Planned review date                                                                           December 2016

Summary

These unit standards were reviewed to ensure they remained relevant to industry and to clarify anomalies that had arisen within the assessment criteria.  Feedback was sought from industry representatives, providers, and assessors via meetings and electronic consultation.

The review identified that the unit standards were too prescriptive, which was causing problems with both providers and assessors.  It was also determined that in many cases the unit standards no longer met the requirements of industry due to continuing changes in technology and the profession in general.

Through peer review, feedback, and discussion, changes were made to titles, credit values, explanatory notes, entry requirements, outcomes, evidence requirements, and ranges as required, reflecting current best practice, the need for flexibility of delivery, and clarification of assessment.  These changes have resulted in replacement unit standards being developed for all Level 5 unit standards.

Replacement unit standards will be registered under the Journalism Skills domain.

Main changes

·      Unit standard 10375 was designated expiring and will not be replaced.

·      Unit standards 10380, 23116, and 23117 were replaced by a single unit standard.

·      Unit standards 10374, 23106, 23108, 23109, 23111, 23118, 23119, 23122, and 23124 were replaced by new unit standards that better reflect industry requirements and clarify assessment conditions.

·      Unit standard 23123 classified under the Print Journalism domain was replaced by a new standard that was classified under the Journalism Skills domain.

Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2014.
