Revision of Furniture qualification

National Certificate in Furniture (Level 2) with strands in Introductory Furniture Finishing Skills, Introductory Furniture Making Skills, and Introductory Upholstery Skills [Ref: 1502]

The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has completed the revision of the qualification listed above.

Date new version published                                                             July 2011

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Reason for the revision

Some trainees, who were not able to complete sufficient off-job training and assessment for the core elective standards, were disadvantaged by the amount of credits needed in this section of the qualification.

Main changes resulting from the revision

Changes to structure and content

·      The amount of credits required in the core elective section was changed from 8 credits of which 5 must be at level 2, to a minimum of 5 credits at level 2 or above.

·      The number of credits required to complete this qualification has decreased from 46-52 to 43-49 credits.

·      Standard details were updated, where required, to reflect any changes made at review.

Transition

Reverse transition was included for expired standards 6400 and 6401 to allow for the completion of the requirements of version 1 of this qualification beyond 31 December 2013.

People currently working toward versions 1 or 2 of the National Certificate in Furniture (Level 2) with strands in Introductory Furniture Finishing Skills, Introductory Furniture Making Skills, and Introductory Upholstery Skills [Ref: 1502], may either complete the requirements of that qualification or transfer their results to version 3.
