NZQA Māori Qualifications Services (MQS) has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2012.
Summary of review and consultation process
These qualifications were reviewed with the Reo Māori Whakaruruhau panel as part of the Māori Qualifications Services review cycle. The usage report detail for the Level 4 and 5 qualifications indicated a significant decrease in the uptake and usage, and minimal to low usage of the Level 6 Diploma. Consultation has been through the Whakaruruhau networks as well as educators providing pathways to the Level 4 and 5 qualifications.

Changes to structure and content
· Purpose statement was updated to include compulsory and elective information.
· Overall credit total was decreased from 120 to 110.
· Three elective sections were added, which allow candidates to choose credits from the Reo Māori subfield, with each section at different levels.
· Standards 7257-7259, 7261-7263, 7265-7267, and 7269-7271 were removed from the compulsory but may still be used to meet the requirements of the elective section.
· Standards' titles and credits were updated to reflect changes made at review.
Transition
Candidates who are currently enrolled in versions 1, 2 or 3 of this qualification may either complete the requirements of that version or transfer their results to version 4 of the qualification. The last date for assessments to take place for the previous versions of this qualification is 31 December 2013.
