Summary

This unit standard is used in highly specialised health and safety training.  Some candidates undertaking this training had difficulty completing Outcome 4 of the standard because, in practice, it required drawing on experience of leading a HAZOP study, which their roles in the workplace and level of experience did not allow them to do.

The Health and Safety Advisory Group, made up of industry representatives and providers, recommended that the existing standard continue to focus on assessing knowledge of participation in HAZOP studies in the workplace and a new standard be developed to cover leading a HAZOP study in the workplace, including practical application of the skills.  These changes were made and endorsed by the Health and Safety Advisory Group in January 2011.

Main changes

·      Removal of barriers to completion of standard 19341.

·      Development of a new standard to fill an identified industry gap for people leading HAZOP studies.

The last date for assessment of the superseded versions of this standard (versions 1-3) is 31 December 2013.  Results will not be accepted where the assessment date is after the last date for assessment of the superseded version of the standard.
