Date new versions published                                                          March 2011

Planned review date                                                                           December 2016

Summary

The unit standard review was carried out because the unit standards had passed their planned review date.  The Agriculture ITO carried out an extensive consultation process commencing in April 2010 to determine if any changes to industry practices had an impact on the content of the unit standards, and whether the unit standards were still fit for purpose.

Unit standards were firstly updated with changes received since the last review, and with feedback from ongoing Agriculture ITO feedback loops and conversations with accredited training providers and industry.

Updated unit standards were then sent to all industry stakeholders including Landcorp, Beef + Lamb New Zealand, DairyNZ, and New Zealand Institute of Primary Industry Management; as well as accredited training providers; Agriculture ITO moderators and staff; and other ITOs who had an interest in the unit standards.

All feedback was considered by the review panel and incorporated where valid.  Justification was recorded where feedback was not incorporated.

A meeting of all training providers was held in July 2010 to finalise the unit standards and discuss any issues related to delivery and assessment that would impact on the content of the unit standards.  No further changes were required to reviewed unit standards, however the need was identified for a new unit standard on land and environmental planning.  Further consultation was carried out to determine and finalise the content of this unit standard.

The final versions of the unit standards were endorsed by the Agriculture Industry Committee.

Main changes

·      The title of unit standard 21385 was amended to reflect the content.

·      The title and subsequent wording throughout unit standard 21389 was changed to reflect a change in industry focus.

·      The level and credits of unit standard 11853 were changed to more accurately reflect the level of complexity, and the time taken to achieve credit.

·      Minor changes were made to content of all unit standards to meet technical criteria and to clarify assessment requirements.

·      A new unit standard on developing a land and environment plan was written to cover an identified gap in this area.
