Review of Electricity Supply qualification

National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Operator) (Level 3) [Ref: 1375]

The Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) has completed the review of the qualification above.

Date new versions published                                                          March 2011

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Summary of review and consultation process

The review was carried out following a request from industry to expand and restructure the content of the qualification in order for it to become achievable by people training in thermal operations.  Those sectors of industry involved in hydro and network operations were consulted on the current validity of the standards and qualification, and the proposed new structure.  Under the proposed structure, network and hydro operators were still required to complete the same standards as in the current qualification and no objections were received from industry.

Main changes resulting from the review

The qualification was restructured to incorporate a Network and Hydro Operator strand, and a Thermal Operator strand.  The compulsory section of the new version of the qualification and the Network and Hydro Operator strand consist of the same standards as the previous version of the qualification, while the Thermal Operator strand contains an additional three standards.
