Summary
This review took place as part of the scheduled review cycle which incorporated a review of the entire suite of BCITO concrete industry qualifications. As a result, unit standards relevant to the concrete industry were transferred from the Construction Trades subfield to the Concrete subfield, and to new sector-specific domains within that subfield.
Consultation took place from January 2008, consisting of working party meetings for the concrete pipe manufacturing industry, to identify relevant skill sets and review existing unit standards. These meetings focussed on the unit standards which describe skills related to concrete pipe manufacturing. Changes and development of the unit standards were signed off by the industry working party in November 2010.
Consultation revealed a need for unit standards specific to the manufacture of concrete pipes to be developed. Additionally, standard 12013 was reviewed to meet specific pipe manufacturing needs, as this skill is relevant to pipe manufacture and the standard is no longer required by other sectors of the concrete industry.
Main changes
· Unit standard 12013 was replaced by unit standard 27195.
· Three new unit standards were developed.
The category C unit standard will expire at the end of December 2013.
