Careerforce (Community Support Services Industry Training Organisation Limited) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published March 2011
Planned review date December 2016
Summary
This review began in April 2009 as part of a contract that Careerforce had with the Ministry of Health. In August 2009, an external reference group - and subsequently a sector panel group - was formed which included representatives from mental health and addiction service providers, the Ministry of Health, peak bodies, and education providers.
The aim of the review was to develop unit standards to be included in a newly developed National Certificate in Mental Health and Addiction Support (Level 4) which will replace the current National Certificate in Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work) (Level 4) [Ref: 0431].
As part of the review process, the outcomes of the newly developed Mental Health and Addiction Support unit standards and the existing Support of Mental Health Consumers/Tangata Whai Ora unit standards were compared.
The content of the newly developed unit standards is aligned with recent sector developments, including the move towards a holistic approach that identifies and evaluates mental health and addiction issues at the same time because they frequently occur together in people needing support.
The sector panel decided to expire the existing Support of Mental Health Consumers/Tangata Whai Ora unit standards without replacement.
Main changes
· Unit standards 13424, 13426, 13429, 13431-13433, 13441, and 21920-21928 in the Support of Mental Health Consumers/Tangata Whai Ora domain were designated expiring without replacement.
· Newly developed unit standards 26983-26991 were registered in the Mental Health and Addiction Support domain.
Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2013
