Revision of Surveying qualifications

 

National Certificate in Surveying (Assistant) (Level 3) [Ref: 0432]

National Diploma in Surveying (Level 6) with an optional strand in Mine Surveying [Ref: 0453]

 

InfraTrain New Zealand has revised the qualifications listed above.

The next qualification review is planned to take place in 2013.

 

Reason for the revision

 

These qualifications were revised to remove and replace unit standards which had been reviewed and designated as expiring so that the qualifications remained achievable.  At the same time, the details of reviewed and revised unit standards were updated.

 

National Certificate in Surveying (Assistant) (Level 3) [Ref: 0432]

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

·      Standard 2977 was replaced by standard 25060.

·      The titles of standards 2788, 2791, and 5236 were updated.

·      The level of standard 2780 decreased from 2 to 1.

·      The credit values of standards 2780, 2788, and 5236 were updated.

·      Expiring standards 6401, 6402, 1272, 5245, 5246, 5251, and 12318 were removed from the Compulsory section of the qualification.

·      Expiring standard 2798 was removed from the Elective section of the qualification.

·      The purpose statement and credit table were updated to reflect the changes made to the content of the qualification.

·      The total credit value of the qualification decreased from 83 to 68.

 

Transition

 

People enrolled on programmes or courses leading to the award of version 4 of this qualification may choose to complete that version before 31 December 2013 or transfer to version 5.


People who want to complete version 4 should note that standard 2798 in the Elective section and standards 5245, 5246, 5251, and 12318 in the Compulsory section will expire on 31 December 2012.  Assessment against these standards must therefore take place before this date.

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes or courses leading to the award of version 5.

 

This qualification contains standards that replace or are substitutes for earlier standards.  For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement or substitute standards - see table below.

Changes to structure and content

·      Standard 11132 was replaced by standard 26298

·      The titles of standards 3488, 6442, and 6450 were updated.

·      The level of standard 1304 increased from 2 to 3.

·      The level of standard 6450 increased from 4 to 5.

·      The credit values of standards 6442 and 6450 were updated.

·      Expiring standards 5269, 6360, 8643-8646, 11102, 11104-11107, and 11109 were removed from the Elective section of the qualification.

·      The classifications of standards 6442 and 6450 were updated.

 

Transition

 

People currently working toward version 5 may choose to complete that version by December 2014 or transfer their results to version 6.

 

People who want to complete version 5 should note that standard 11132 in the Compulsory section will expire on 31 December 2012 and standards 5269, 8643-8846, 11102, 11104-11107, and 11109 in the Compulsory section will expire on 31 December 2013.  Assessment against these standards must therefore take place before these dates.

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes or courses leading to the award of version 6.
