NZQA Māori Qualifications Services (MQS) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published November 2011
Planned review date December 2016
Summary
The above standards were due for review and required updating to meet current industry requirements.
The Whakaruruhau, representing iwi organisations, government departments, and training organisations, met in March 2011 to review and make changes to the current standards. The usage of these standards and their related qualifications was also discussed at great length by the Whakaruruhau. An action plan was developed and the subfield Environment Māori was included as part of the MQS promotion strategy for 2011-2012 year plan.
Draft standards were developed and circulated via the Whakaruruhau to their stakeholders, tertiary training providers, government agencies (such as the Ministry for the Environment, Department of Conservation, The Historic Places Trust), and iwi organisations. The purpose of the circulation was to garner feedback and endorsement of the amendments.
Main changes
· Titles and purpose statements of some standards were updated to reflect changes made to outcome statements.
· Level and credits for standard 21847 were decreased (from 4 and 6, to 3 and 4 respectively), and the credits for standard 21852 were increased (from 6 to 8).
· Explanatory notes were amended (definitions, assessment guidance, and legislation were updated).
· Outcomes, evidence requirements, and range statements were amended to maintain clarity of requirements and fitness for purpose, and to ensure current and best practices are followed.
· Changes were made in the English versions of the Wāhi Tapu standards to include kupu Māori.
· Unit standard 21848 was designated expiring and replaced by standards 27652 and 27483.
· A new unit standard (27484) was developed for gathering information on a local wāhi tapu from different sources.
The category C unit standard will expire at the end of December 2013
