Review of Electronic Engineering qualifications
National Certificate in Electronic Engineering (Level 3) [Ref: 1093]
National Certificate in Electronic Engineering (Level 4) [Ref: 1123]
The ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.
Date new versions published September 2011
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2016.
Summary of review and consultation process
A review of competency training was carried out by ETITO, with a consultation group consisting of members of the electronic industry and training providers who train and assess in this area. The review reflected several years of training, assessment, and industry experience and took into account the anticipated future skill requirements of the industry.
Main changes resulting from the review
Changes to the electrical legislation and licensing classes resulted in the removal of the unit standards that lead to electrical registration as Electrical Service Technician-A from within the National Certificate in Electronic Engineering (Level 3) [Ref: 1093]. The qualification now includes two electives for people wishing to gain registration as an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (endorsed to disconnect and connect) or Electrical Service Technician.
The National Certificate in Electronic Engineering (Level 4) [Ref: 1123] was updated to reflect the results of unit standard reviews.
In October 2010 the related National Certificate in Electronic Engineering (Level 2) [Ref: 1092] was designated expiring and will expire at the end of December 2012 as the industry considered it no longer fit for purpose.
