The Ministry of Education has completed a revision of the achievement standards listed above.

Date new versions published                            December 2012

Planned review date                                            December 2016

Summary

The Ministry considers issues that arise in the use of achievement standards, and where necessary, revises its standards to address the issues that have arisen.  The changes documented in this report were triggered by issues raised through assessment or moderation activities associated with the standards.

Main changes

·      Visual Arts 1.5 (AS90913) - the wording of title meant at least three cultural contexts were needed.  However, the assessment resources required only two contexts.  Moderators and standards writers agree that two contexts were sufficient.  The title has been changed to indicate that one Māori and one other cultural context are needed.  Consequential changes were made to the rest of the standard.  The new title is: Demonstrate understanding of art works from a Māori and another cultural context using art terminology.

·      History 1.6 (AS91006) - the date of the Waihi Strike in Explanatory Note 6 was corrected (changed from 1913 to 1912).

·      Media Studies 2.6 (AS91253) - error in EN 3 corrected.  Last bullet changed from 'film trailer (1 minute plus)' to 'film trailer (3 minutes plus)'.

·      Biology 1.5 (AS90929) - the reference to 'a mammal' constrained the nature of assessment in a way that was not originally intended.  Replaced 'a mammal' with 'mammal(s)' in the title, and in rest of standard for consistency with title.

·      Science 1.5 (AS90944) - 'isotope' removed from EN 5 because it had no relevance to the outcome recognised by the standard.
