The Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) has completed the review of the unit standard listed above.

Date new version published                                                             December 2012

Planned review date                                                                           December 2016

Summary

This unit standard was reviewed and amended in order to bring the unit standard into line with industry requirements and practice, as well as remove any barriers to gaining the unit standard.

Feedback from Transpower, the only user of this unit standard, indicated that it was unrealistic and unnecessary to provide training and assessment on two different types of emergency towers.  The significant time and resources involved in gaining the standard, particularly given the use of large equipment that is expensive to transport, is seen as a barrier to assessment.

ESITO followed up this request by having discussions with Transpower, and the training arm - Omaka - staff.  Their suggestions were collated, reviewed by them, and then approved by them for submission to NZQA.

Main changes

·         Explanatory notes (ENs) were updated and amended.

·         Title was amended to better represent the intent and align to the outcome statements.

·         Range statements throughout the standard were amended.  The range statement under outcome 1 was moved to ENs and amended to allow for evidence to be provided against one type of tower.

·         Outcome statements were amended to better represent the intent and align with evidence requirements.

·         Evidence requirements (ERs) throughout the standard were amended.  ER 4.5 and its corresponding range statement were removed so that more emphasis could be placed on the safe erection of the tower, the planning and the quality check rather than on the job record.
