NZQA National Qualifications Services (NQS) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Summary

 

In 2010, NQS met with a group of Music Technology educators to discuss standards in domain Music Technology.  The group proposed the inclusion of merit and excellence grades in existing unit standards, noting that there are currently no graded unit standards in Music Technology.  They also suggested the possibility of developing a further standard at Level 1 to enable a pathway for students from Level 1 to Level 3.

 

Following the meeting and subsequent formal written request, NQS agreed to the proposal and established a review group comprised of both secondary and tertiary practitioners, and the National Assessment Moderator.

 

During the review it was agreed that a further standard at Level 2 focussing on the development of music technology equipment was necessary in order to provide underpinning knowledge for the other more practical standards.

 

Main changes

 

·      Unit standard 23729 was replaced by unit standard 27658.

·      Two additional unit standards were developed in order to provide a pathway from Level 1 through to Level 3 and to assess underpinning knowledge of the development of music technology equipment and techniques.

 

Category C unit standard 23729 will expire at the end of December 2013.
