Summary

 

The industry was brought together on 16 October to consider the training and assessment material required for the new unit standards for the fibreboard packaging qualifications. The graduate profile of the new qualifications was also considered. At this meeting the industry reconsidered their requirements for a competent tradesperson in their workplaces and the time it would take someone to reach this level of competence.

 

In particular they had concerns about the 20 credits assigned to unit standard 27799. This standard replaced a number of other standards in both the case and carton sectors of the industry (3682, 10145-10147, 10157-10159 and 18245).

 

Having revisited unit standard 27799, the review group agreed that greater evidence of competency was required than was first thought, given that evidence of three different production jobs with at least one job produced on a 6 corner folder gluer, is required.  It was also agreed that the credit values of the standards replaced by unit standard 27799 was more relevant than had originally been thought.  The review group agreed that a 35 credit value for unit standard 27799 better reflects the assessment criteria intended during the review process.

 

It was agreed that Explanatory Note 2 in both revised standards required amendment to clarify requirements.

 

Main changes

 

·      Credit value of unit standard 27799 increased from 20 to 35.

·      Explanatory note 2 in unit standards 27798 and 27799 were amended to ensure consistency of assessment.
