Revision of Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon qualification
National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller's Assistant) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development [Ref: 1331]
The NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation (EXITO) has completed the revision of the qualification above.
Date new versions published October 2012
This qualification is part of the current review of Drilling Sector qualifications that began in 2011, envisaged to be completed by 2014.
Reason for the revision
Core Elective 2 of the qualification included standards from the Driver Licence Classes domain that are due to expire at the end of December 2012. This revision was needed to ensure that trainees could continue to achieve the requirements of the qualification pending the conclusion of the current review of Drilling Sector qualifications.
Main changes resulting from the revision
Changes to structure and content:
· Standards 16605-16610 were removed from Core Elective 2 as they are due to expire 31 December 2012.
· Standard 18138 was removed from Core Elective 2 as it is suitable in only a minority of drilling contexts.
· Core Elective 2 changed from a minimum of 12 credits to a minimum of one standard. Credits for Core Elective 1 increased from 5 to 13 to ensure the total credit value of the qualification remains 40.
All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to the new version of the qualification.
People who have already gained unit standards 16605-16610 must complete version 1 of this qualification by 31 December 2013. People who have not gained unit standards 16605-16610 must complete these by 31 December 2012 or transfer to version 2.
It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this revision, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the address below.
