NZQA National Qualifications Services has completed the revision and extension of expiry date for the unit standards listed above.

Summary
In 2008 the Ministry of Education and NZQA began to review achievement and unit standards in light of the revised New Zealand Curriculum (NZC). The review recommended all Level 1 unit standards from the Science learning area be expired as the aligned achievement standards covered science outcomes from the NZC.
Feedback from the secondary sector indicated that unit standards were required for year 11 students who were not yet working at NZC Level 6. These expiring standards, as an interim measure, had their expiry dates extended from December 2012 to December 2014.
Main changes
· Extension of expiry date for unit standards 18969, 18973, 18974, 18977, 18982, 18986, 18989, and 21611 to December 2014.
· Range statements were amended to more clearly indicate the evidence required.
· Legislation and health and safety explanatory notes were updated so that they were fit for purpose and technically correct.
