The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          April 2013

Planned review date                                                                           December 2017

Summary

This review was prompted by the mandatory review of forestry qualifications in 2012.  All relevant stakeholders were consulted through meetings held for the forestry qualification review process.  The current and future skill and knowledge requirements of the industry were reviewed.  The findings from the forestry qualification review informed the review of these unit standards.  Where gaps in skill and knowledge requirements were identified, new unit standards were developed.  Industry subject matter experts were consulted on the changes made to the unit standards above as well as the new standards, and have endorsed the unit standards in this review.

Main changes

·      The credit value of unit standards 1145 and 1146 has been increased to 5 to better reflect the amount of learning required to meet the outcomes.

·      The classification of unit standard 19722 has been changed to Forest Harvesting Operations because the Forest Cable Harvesting domain has been designated expiring.

·      Explanatory notes have been updated for consistency with other FITEC unit standards.

·      Outcomes, evidence requirements and range statements have been amended to clarify meaning, and to ensure consistency with other FITEC unit standards.

·      Unit standards 27964 and 27965 were developed to fill gaps in skills and knowledge in the operation of forest industry machines as well as to meet an education pathway to qualifications at Level 4 as identified in the TRoQ process.

·      Unit standard 27963 was developed to fill a gap in knowledge of establishment and silvicultural operations at Level 2.

·      Unit standard 27966 was developed to cater to the needs of a new target audience.  People who enter the forest on an infrequent basis or in operational support roles will complete this unit standard.

·      The last date for assessment of previous versions was amended to December 2014, with the exception of 24568 which has a last date for assessment of December 2013 for version 1.
