The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Summary

 

This review was prompted by the Targeted Review of Qualifications for Forestry.  Relevant stakeholders were consulted with to determine the current and future skill and knowledge requirements in the timber drying and treatment sector.  Two new unit standards were developed that are generic to a range of processes in timber treatment.  Industry subject matter experts were consulted on the changes made to the unit standards and have endorsed these changes.

 

Main changes

 

·      Explanatory notes were updated for consistency with other FITEC standards.

·      Evidence requirements were updated to align with amendments to the explanatory notes.

·      Unit standards 152, 21759 and 21760 were replaced by unit standard 28016.

·      Unit standards 154 and 21762 were replaced by unit standard 28015.

·      Unit standard 145 was designated expiring and will not be replaced.

 

Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2015

Transition

 

While other SSBs will need to determine their qualification specific transition arrangements, transition for FITEC qualifications are:

 

Candidates with credit for unit standards 152, 21759 and 21760 will be exempt from the requirement for unit standard 28016; and those with credit for unit standards 154 and 21762 will be exempt from the requirement for unit standard 28015.
