NZQA National Qualification Services (NQS) has developed new unit standards for the Pacific Studies Cook Islands' Tradition and Culture domain.
Date new standards published December 2013
Planned review date December 2018
Summary
The Cook Islands' Ministry of Education made a case to NZQA National Qualifications Services (NQS) to develop standards that could be used to assess outcomes from its Cook Islands Maori Curriculum (Secondary Levels 6-8). This resulted in an agreement between The Chief Executives of the Cook Islands' Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) to develop the standards.
The Cook Islands' Ministry of Education worked with orators and teachers to determine what should be assessed at each level in the Cook Islands' tradition and culture learning area, and then consulted with the teachers for endorsement. When this process was complete, they advised NQS of what outcomes they wanted and NQS worked with the ministry to develop the standards.
These unit standards link to the Cook Islands' Maori Curriculum - Secondary Levels 6 -8 and are contextualised to the Cook Islands only.
Impact on Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR)
The standards will be included on CMR 0119.
