Revision of Manufacturing qualifications

National Certificate in Manufacturing (Metal and Related Products) (Level 4) [Ref: 1388]

Competenz has revised the qualification listed above.

Date new version published                                                             July 2013

The next qualification review is planned to take place later this year.

Reason for the revision

Fonterra Canpac International Ltd approached Competenz in April 2013 to seek a way of recognising the Level 4 skills of machine setters working in the can-making industry with a National Qualification.  There are five unit standards in the Can Making domain at Level 4 (totalling 122 credits) but they were not part of a qualification.  As a result, machine setters with Level 4 skills were not able to be recognised with a National Certificate.  Can Making is an optional strand in the National Certificate in Manufacturing (Metal and Related Products) (Level 3) [Ref: 1387] but was not included in the equivalent certificate at Level 4.

Discussions began between Canpac and Competenz in April 2013 to address the omission and seek a means of providing recognition for Level 4 skills in the Can Making domain.  Competenz decided that the most appropriate solution was to add the Level 4 Can Making domain as an elective to the National Certificate in Manufacturing (Metal and Related Products) (Level 4) [Ref: 1388].
