Summary of review and consultation process

The tissue converting qualifications were first registered in 1999, reviewed in 2004 and were due for review in 2012.  In January 2011 Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) initiated an early review of the tissue converting qualifications at the request of the sector operating committee.

Advisory group meetings were held to address qualification requirements.  The advisory group included representatives from the two large manufacturing sites in Hamilton and Kawerau, owned and operated by SCA Hygiene Australasia and a subject matter expert.

Further consultation has taken place since the initial review meetings to develop the strategic purpose statement, outcome statement, and specification for each qualification.  Competenz took over standard setting responsibility and the role and qualification developer for this sector in April 2013 following a merger with FITEC.

General transition

The above qualifications were reviewed in 2012, and have now been designated expiring.  No new enrolments will be accepted, and the last date to meet their requirements is 31 December 2014 at which point the qualifications will be designated discontinued.

People currently working towards one of the replaced qualifications may either complete the requirements for that qualification by 31 December 2014 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification.

It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to Competenz at the address below.  Appeals will be considered on a case by case basis.
