NZ Motor Industry Training Organisation (Incorporated) (MITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published August 2014
Planned review date December 2017
Summary
MITO’s Blasting Working Group, which includes representation from industry and Tertiary Education Organisations, considered the content of these unit standards in conjunction with the development of the new New Zealand qualification for blasting.
The review of these standards has re-aligned the level and credit values to ensure they reflect the NZQA level descriptors, and the time required for learning, practice, and assessment to take place; and to ensure they accord rationally with the Graduate Profile Outcomes in the New Zealand qualifications.
Standards 21632 and 21633 were designated expiring in March 2011 and expired on 31 December 2012. They were reinstated and their expiry date was extended to 31 December 2017 in October 2013. The SSB has now decided to reverse the standards’ status from expiring to current. The standards have been identified for inclusion in industry training programmes developed to meet the outcomes of the new qualification.
Standard 8920 was also designated expiring in March 2011 and expired on 31 December 2012. It was reinstated and the expiry date extended to 31 December 2017 in October 2013. The SSB has decided to reverse the standard’s status from expiring to current. It was also decided that it should be reinstated in preference to standard 26765 as it more accurately reflects the skills and knowledge required by industry in New Zealand. As a result standard 26765, which has never been used, has been designated expiring.
The Working Group has endorsed the changes made to the standards, and the proposed levels and credits were included within the industry-wide qualification consultation that took place in December 2013.
Main changes
· The credits for standards 8920, 8921, and 17697 were increased to more accurately reflect the time required for learning, practice, and assessment to take place.
· The titles of standards 17697, 20333, 20334, and 21152 were amended to allow for use in the range of blasting contexts to be covered by the new New Zealand qualification.
· The status of standard 8920 was changed to current and it was reclassified from the Underground Extraction domain in the Extractive Industries subfield, to the Underground Metalliferous Mining domain in the Metalliferous Mining subfield.
· The status of standards 21632 and 21633 were changed to current, and their entry information updated.
· Standard 26765 was designated expiring and will not be replaced.
· Explanatory note references and hyperlinks were updated for currency.
· Minor amendments to some purpose statements, explanatory notes, outcomes, evidence requirements, and range statements were made to ensure clarity for users.
The last date for assessment of superseded versions of these standards is 31 December 2017. Results will not be accepted where the assessment date is after the last date for assessment of the superseded version of the standard.
The category D unit standard will expire at the end of December 2015
