Summary of review and consultation process
A consultation group was formed to undertake the review of the Industrial Measurement and Control (IMC) qualifications. This group included industry practitioners and training providers. These people were mandated to speak on behalf of their industry and organisations, both from a training needs perspective and an employment trend perspective, and the relationships between the two perspectives.
The consultation group identified that there is an ongoing need for specialist qualifications for this industry. The proposed qualifications align with the current and projected future knowledge and skills required by the IMC sector. Separate Level 4 qualifications for theory and practice were developed to enable candidates:
· to undertake theory training either before gaining employment in the IMC sector or to facilitate off-job learning concurrent to on-job learning, and
· to address issues of non-completion of a single substantial qualification.
The inclusion of a Process Automation strand in the Level 5 qualification addresses a demand from industry for technicians with advanced skills and knowledge in this area.

New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Practice) (Level 4) [Ref: 2251].

replaced by
New Zealand Certificate in Process Control and Automation (Level 5) with strands in Process Control and Process Automation [Ref: 2253].

Transition
The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2016.
The last date to meet the requirements of the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2019, when the qualifications will be discontinued. From that date no results can be reported against the qualifications.
People currently working towards the National Certificate in Industrial Measurement and Control (Level 5) [Ref: 0976] may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2019 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification.
It is not intended that any existing trainee be disadvantaged by these arrangements. However, any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the standard setting body at the address below.
