Summary

NZQA National Qualifications Services initiated this revision of unit standards 26622-26627 in response to an internal request to include information from the previously published clarifications.

Additions were made to the explanatory notes in unit standards in order to clarify the intent of the standards, and the nature and quantity of evidence required.

The Joint Advisory Group for the Ministry of Education and NZQA was consulted before the proposed changes were posted on the NZQA website for a three-week consultation period.  Feedback indicated support for the additions, and unit standard 26626 was amended to address the concern raised.

Main changes

·           In each unit standard, the period of time for candidates to demonstrate competence was stipulated in explanatory note 3 (at least one month).

·           In each unit standard, additions were made to the explanatory notes to link the skill demands of the activities to the appropriate step/koru on the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy or the Learning Progressions for Adult Numeracy, available at http://www.literacyandnumeracyforadults.com/.

·           In each unit standard, additions were made to the explanatory notes in order to help assessors in the collection of suitable and sufficient evidence.

·           In unit standard 26624, the word writer’s was added to evidence requirement 1.2 in order to clarify which purpose is needed.

·           In unit standard 26626, a range statement was added to outcome 1 to be consistent with the other numeracy standards.  The evidence requirements were reordered, and evidence requirement 1.3 was reworded, to emphasise the conclusions from interpretations.
