The NZ Hairdressing ITO Inc (HITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          June 2014

Planned review date                                                                           December 2017

Summary

The review of these unit standards took place within the current sector review of Hairdressing and Barbering qualifications which began in 2011.  The content of the unit standards was developed and endorsed as relevant and fit for purpose by members of the hairdressing qualifications’ Advisory and Governance Group in conjunction with the Application for Approval to List new qualifications in this sector.

The changes to the unit standards reflect the skills and knowledge required by stakeholders for inclusion in the proposed New Zealand Certificate in Salon Skills (Level 2).  In addition, three new unit standards were developed to support the requirements of the qualification outcomes.

Main changes

·      Unit standards 9953, 21935, 21937, 21938, and 21940 from the Hairdressing domain were reworked to be applicable to a range of salon types (hairdressing, barbering and/or beauty).  They were moved to the Salon Skills domain.

·      The title, purpose, explanatory notes, outcomes and evidence requirements of unit standards 9953, 21935-21938, and 21940 were amended to allow them to be assessed against within a training salon as well as workplace salons.

·      Unit standard 25432 was designated expiring as its requirements can now be met by unit standard 9953.

·      A new outcome was added to unit standard 21935 to include keeping a salon’s reception and client areas tidy.  Credits were increased to more accurately reflect the required time for learning and assessment.

·      Credit values for unit standards 21938 and 21940 were increased to more accurately reflect the required time for learning and assessment.

·      Three new unit standards were developed to cover skills and knowledge required for entry level learners.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of standards in this review is 31 December 2016.  Results will not be accepted where the assessment date is after the last date for assessment of the superseded versions of these standards.

Category D unit standard will expire at the end of December 2016
