Revision of Concrete and Construction Trades qualifications

 

National Certificate in Basic Residential Property Maintenance (Level 2) with an optional strand in Basic Construction Project Work [Ref: 1450]

National Certificate in Concrete Core Skills (Level 2) [Ref: 1452]

National Certificate in Fibre Cement Linings (Level 4) with strands in Fixing, and Finishing [Ref: 0272]

National Certificate in Fibrous Plaster (Installation) (Level 4) with an optional strand in Specialist Systems [Ref: 0273]

National Certificate in Fibrous Plaster (Manufacture) (Level 4) with optional strands in Panels and Tiles, and Specialist Models and Mould Making [Ref: 0274]

National Certificate in Plaster Board (Level 4) with strands in Fixing, and Finishing, and with an optional strand in Specialist [Ref: 0275]

National Certificate in Proprietary Plaster Cladding Systems (Level 4) with strands in Rebated Fibre Cement, Lightweight Fibre Cement, and External Insulation Finishing Systems (EIFS) [Ref: 0786]

National Certificate in Specialist Interiors (Installation) (Level 3) with strands in Suspended Ceilings, and Proprietary Partitions, and with an optional strand in Access Floors [Ref: 1390]

 

The Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) has revised the qualifications listed above.

 

Date new versions published                                                          May 2014

 

The qualifications listed above are currently under review as part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications.  Therefore, all qualification review dates have been given as 31 December 2015.

 

Reason for the revision

 

The qualifications were revised to remove expired standard 8492 from the compulsory sections.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

Changes to the structure and content

·      Standard 8492 was removed.

·      Standards 26551 and 26552 replaced standards 6400, 6401, and 6402 where applicable.

·      The purpose statements were updated.

 

Transition

 

People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of previous versions of the qualifications may complete those versions if unit standard 8492 is listed as achieved on their record of achievement.

 

People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of previous versions of the qualifications who do not have unit standard 8492 listed as achieved on their record of achievement can transfer to the current version of the qualifications.

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to current versions.

 

These qualifications contain standards that replace earlier standards.  For the purposes of these qualifications, people who have gained credit for the replaced standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.

Last date for assessment

 

The last date for assessments to take place for version 5 of Refs: 0274 and 0275, version 4 of Refs: 0272 and 0273, version 2 of Refs: 0786 and 1452, and version 1 of Refs: 1390 and 1450 (the previous versions) is 31 December 2015.

 

It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this revision.  However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged can appeal to BCITO at the contact details below.
