Summary

 

Unit standard 22908 was revised to reflect changing industry practice by reducing the range of manual machining operations of which evidence was required in the standard.  This reflects wider industry use of Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machinery.  In particular, engineering businesses do certain grinding operations only, so it was difficult for them to assess their trainees against all the operations listed in the range statement.

 

To assist with the revision, an expert panel was established in October 2013.  The panel considered feedback that had been received on the unit standard.  The revised standard was sent out for wider consultation to field experts, assessors and training providers.  All feedback received was considered by the panel and has informed the new version.

 

Main changes

 

·         The references in the explanatory notes have been updated.

·         The range statement in outcome 4 has been modified.
