Summary of review and consultation process
The review occurred as a result of the mandatory review of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning qualifications, part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ). The mandatory review involved extensive consultation with stakeholders working in the industry. Consultation included meetings to discuss the need to review the qualifications, and subsequent meetings considered the proposed content of the qualifications.
Industry confirmed the on-going need for a set of qualifications in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning that would recognise graduate capabilities and provide an education pathway for trainees.
Main changes resulting from the review
The new Level 3 Trade Assistant qualification replaces both Certificates from MIT [Ref: MN4488] and SIT [Ref: ST5209] respectively.
The MIT Diploma has been replaced by the current National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 5) with the Mechanical Services strand [Ref: 1545].
