Competenz has completed the reinstatement and extension of expiry date of the unit standards listed above. Unit standards that have been reinstated are listed in bold above.
Date new versions published October 2014
Planned review date December 2019
Summary
Unit standards 2414–2421 were designated expiring in July 2009 with the last date for assessment set at 31 December 2014.
The Fabrication Industry Sector had initially deemed the standards as not required; however, there is now a demand from the mechanical engineering sectors for these Level 2 and 3 unit standards. These industries do not wish to train fabricators; however, they require the basic skills and knowledge to allow workers to perform their tasks effectively.
Learners enrolled or enrolling in version 2 of the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 4) with strands in Fitting and Machining, General Engineering, Machining, Maintenance Engineering, Toolmaking, and Electricity Supply [Ref: 1262] may not be able to complete the qualification after December 2014 if some of these unit standards expire.
Competenz has decided to reinstate some unit standards (that will remain registered and current) and extend the expiry date of others (that will still expire but at a later date).
The reinstated unit standards are fit for purpose and have been endorsed by the industry sector.
Summary of main changes
· Unit standards 2414, 2416, and 2417 were reinstated and will be reviewed in 2019.
· Last dates for assessment of superseded versions were specified.
· Unit standards 2415, and 2418-2421 have a new expiry date of 31 December 2018.
