Summary

The review of this unit standard took place within the current sector review of Hairdressing and Barbering qualifications that began in 2011.

Members of the barbering qualifications’ Advisory and Governance Group endorsed the unit standard level increase.

The change to the unit standard reflects the skills and knowledge required by stakeholders for inclusion in a new Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in commercial barbering.

Main changes

·         The level was increased from 3 to 4 as the required skills and knowledge, and their application align with the descriptors for Level 4 of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.

·         Evidence requirement 2.4 was added to cover the management of any unintended skin damage.

·         Explanatory notes were updated for consistency with more recently listed unit standards.

·         Last dates for assessment of the superseded versions of the standard were specified.

-       The last date for assessment for versions 1 and 2 is December 2014.

-       The last date for assessment for version 3 is December 2016.
