The next qualification review is planned to take place by 31 December 2020.
Summary of review and consultation process
A mandatory sector review of qualifications in the Electrotechnology sector took place during 2011 and 2012. The review included broad consultation with industry and training provider stakeholders to ensure that the new qualification would meet current and future needs, and resulted in the recommendation that the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Motor Rewinding and Repair) (Level 4) [Ref: 0412] be replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Electromechanical Maintenance and Repair) (Level 4) with an optional strand in Electrical Service Technician [Ref: 2565]. The replacement New Zealand qualification has been registered and the National qualification has been designated expiring.

Transition
The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2016. The last date to meet the requirements of the replaced qualification is 31 December 2021. People working towards the replaced qualification may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2021 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to The Skills Organisation at the address below:
