The Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation has reviewed the qualifications listed above.

 

Replacement qualification

 

New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) with strands in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying [Ref: 2420]

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2020.

 

Summary of review and consultation process

 

The review occurred as a result of the mandatory review of construction qualifications, as part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ) – Allied Trades.  The review involved extensive communications, consultation, meetings, working group activities and feedback from stakeholders.

 

Industry and other stakeholders confirmed the need for one qualification that contained strands in construction management and quantity surveying, to provide appropriate knowledge and skills for those working in these sectors of the building and construction industry.

 

The existing national qualifications have been replaced by a New Zealand qualification as detailed below.

Transition

The replaced qualifications contain standards that have been replaced by new standards.  People with credit for the new standards are exempt from the expiring standards – see table below.

The last date for entry into the replaced national qualifications [Ref: 0356 and Ref: 0358] is 31 December 2015.  The last date for completion of the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2017, at which time they will be designated as discontinued.

 

Existing candidates may either complete the replaced national qualifications or transfer to the New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) with strands in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying [Ref: 2420].  Any enrolled candidate unable to complete their national qualification by 31 December 2017 will be transferred to the New Zealand Diploma.

Category A

The qualification is published as a new version with the same NQF ID

The qualification is published as a new version with the same NQF ID

Changes are made to title, rules or components

The new version of the qualification recognises a similar skill set to that recognised by the previous version

Transition arrangements are required if candidates must gain additional/different credits for the new version

Category C

A new (replacement) qualification is published with new NQF ID

Significant changes are made to the qualification in terms of components, structure, type or level

The SSB views people with the replacement qualification as being significantly different in terms of competence from those with the replaced qualification

Transition arrangements are required

Transition may be limited to phase-out dates

Category D

Qualification will expire.
