The next qualification review, of the New Zealand qualifications, is planned to take place by 31 December 2020.
Summary of review and consultation process
During 2012 and 2013, a mandatory sector review of qualifications in the Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying sector occurred. The review encompassed broad consultation with industry and training provider stakeholders to ensure that the new qualifications meet current and future needs. The review resulted in the recommendation that the national qualification suite listed above should be replaced by a suite of New Zealand qualifications. The replacement New Zealand qualifications have now been registered, and the national qualifications will therefore be phased out.

Transition
The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualifications [Ref: 0077, 0201, 0202] is 31 December 2017, when the replaced qualifications will be designated expiring.
The last date to meet the requirements of the replaced qualifications will be 31 December 2022 when the qualifications will be discontinued. From that date no results can be reported against the qualifications.
People currently working towards one of the replaced qualifications may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2022 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification.
These qualifications contain expiring unit standards (6400, 6401, 6402) which will be reinstated by 31 December 2015.
Ref: 1488 contains a standard that has expired and been replaced by another standard. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the replacement standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the expired standard – see table below.
