The next qualification review for the replacement qualifications is planned to take place during 2020.
Summary of review and consultation process
The qualifications were reviewed as required by the Targeted Review of Qualifications process. The replacement qualifications received widespread, but not unanimous, support from stakeholders.
Main changes resulting from the review
Two New Zealand Diplomas in Hospitality Management were registered; where the Level 5 diploma [Ref: 2539] replaces the expiring National qualifications and the Level 6 Ref: 2540 is a new qualification.
A large number of existing provider qualifications will expire; as will the following National qualifications:

Qualification specific transition
Ref: 0883 contains expiring classifications in Elective A. With the exception of Business > Management > First Line Management, which now cannot be used to gain credit towards this qualification, these been replaced. While this qualification remains achievable through the other classifications in Elective A, for the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit from the replacement classifications are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the expiring classifications.

Ref: 1245 contains some expiring unit standards. Any candidate enrolled in an expiring unit standard must complete and report the assessment before the standard’s expiry date as follows:
· Standard 1988, in the Core of Ref: 1245, expires 2018.
· Standards 25021 and 25023 in the Food Service Management strand of Ref: 1245, expire 2016.
· Standards 24517 and 24518 in the Functions Management strand of Ref: 1245 expire in 2017.
General Transition
The last date for entry into the replaced national qualifications is 31 December 2017.
The last date for award of these qualifications will be 31 December 2020 at which time they will be discontinued. From this date no results can be reported against the qualifications.
People currently working towards the replaced qualifications may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2020 or transfer to the replacement New Zealand qualification.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to ServiceIQ at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case by case basis.
