The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2020.
Summary of review and consultation process
A mandatory sector review of qualifications for the resource recovery and waste disposal sector occurred between 2012 and 2014. The review included broad consultation with industry and training provider stakeholders to ensure that the new qualifications would meet current and future needs.
The review resulted in a recommendation that the national qualifications listed above be replaced by New Zealand qualifications.
The replacement New Zealand qualifications have been listed and the national qualifications have been designated expiring.

Transition
The last date for entry into
programmes leading to the reviewed qualifications is
31 December 2016. The last date for completion of the reviewed qualifications
is
31 December 2020, at which time they will be designated as discontinued.
People currently working towards any of the reviewed qualifications must complete its requirements or transfer to a programme of study or training leading to a replacement qualification by 31 December 2020.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to MITO at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case by case basis.
