Summary of review and consultation process
The review of the above qualification formed part of the wider Targeted Review of Qualifications which was triggered in August 2013, and completed in May 2015.
In order to ensure the proposed qualification suite met the criteria set by NZQA, the review drew heavily on the involvement of mandatory and other key stakeholders - from the initial strategic consultation meeting, to the composition of the Governance Group, the establishment of working groups and finally, further consultation through the Infrastructure ITO website, and regional staff industry clients, the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors, and Motor Industry Training Organisation (MITO) (specifically for mine surveying).
As a result, the proposed new qualification suite is considered to meet the needs of both the survey profession and trainees, while enabling both the ITO and training providers to develop training programmes and programmes of study to lead toward them.
Main changes resulting from the review
On the whole the replaced qualifications are significantly different in design and content to the replacement qualifications.
To ensure flexibility to allow the qualifications to be achieved through a range of contexts and learning pathways, mandatory and optional conditions have been defined without the inclusion of specific unit standards, allowing programme developers to determine appropriate methods of delivery and assessment.
In Ref: 0432, compulsory unit standard 19355 was replaced by achievement standard 91631. The over-all credit value of Ref: 0432 changed from 68 to 66 credits.
Standards 5095, 5268, 17742, 17745, 19355 and 21614 were removed from Ref: 0453 and replaced by 91426, 91575, 29087, 29087, 91631, 91412 respectively. The over-all credit value of Ref: 0453 decreased from 252 to 250 credits.
In Ref: 1444, compulsory unit standards 26551 and 26552 were replaced by units 6400, 6401 and 6402. The over-all credit value for Ref: 1444 increased from 129 to 131.

However, as there are substantial differences between the new and replaced qualifications and therefore any transition will be complex; it is recommended that candidates complete the qualification in which they are enrolled. For assistance please contact the Infrastructure ITO at the contact details given below.
