Summary of review and consultation process

The review occurred as a result of the mandatory review of Hauora qualifications, part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ), which included all Hauora qualifications at Levels 2-6 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.  These qualifications were submitted under the Mātauranga Māori Evaluative Quality Assurance (MMEQA) process.

The mandatory review involved extensive consultation with stakeholders working in the sector.  Consultation included meetings to discuss the need to review the qualifications, and subsequent meetings took place in order to consider the proposed content of the qualifications.

The sector confirmed the ongoing need for a set of qualifications in Hauora that would recognise graduate capabilities and provide an education pathway for trainees.

The existing National qualifications have been replaced by New Zealand qualifications, as detailed below.

Category C qualifications will expire at the end of December 2019.

Transition arrangements

The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2016.  The last date of assessment for the replaced qualification is 31 December 2019, when the qualification will be discontinued.  From that date no results can be reported against the qualification.

People currently working towards the replaced qualification must complete the requirements by 31 December 2019 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification.  However, there are substantial differences between the new and replaced qualification, and it is recommended that candidates complete the qualification in which they are enrolled.

It is the intention of NZQA Māori Qualifications Services that no existing learner should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  However any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may appeal to NZQA Māori Qualifications Services at the address below
