Review of Equine (Racecourse Maintenance/Management) qualifications

 

National Certificate in Equine (Racecourse Maintenance) (Level 3) with strands in Harness Racing, and Thoroughbred Racing [Ref: 0367]

National Certificate in Equine (Racecourse Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 0653]

 

The Primary ITO has completed the review of the qualifications listed above.

 

Summary of review and consultation process:

These qualifications were reviewed as part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications and designated as expiring without replacement due to lack of usage. They have been closed on Primary ITO’s internal system.

 

Main changes resulting from the review:

National Certificate in Equine (Racecourse Maintenance) (Level 3) with strands in Harness Racing, and Thoroughbred Racing [Ref: 0367] is set to discontinue with effect from 20 April 2016.

This qualification has been replaced by New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (Level 3) with strands in Amenity, Arboriculture, Cemetery, Fruit Production, Indoor Crop Production, Outdoor Vegetable Production, Landscape Construction, Nursery Production, Post-Harvest, and Sports Turf [Ref: 2678].

National Certificate in Equine (Racecourse Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 0653] is set to discontinue with effect from 20 April 2016.

This qualification has been replaced by New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) with strands in Amenity, Arboriculture, Cemetery, Landscape Design, Landscape Construction, and Sports Turf [Ref: 2674].

 

The qualifications currently have no trainees enrolled and have been closed in Primary ITO’s system.

The SSB views people with the replacement qualification as being significantly different in terms of competence from those with the replaced qualification
