Summary of review and consultation process

The review occurred as a result of the mandatory review of Ngā Toi Māori (Whakairo, Māori Performing Arts, and Ngā Mahi a Te Whare Pora) qualifications, part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ), which included all Toi Māori qualifications at Levels 2-6 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.

The qualifications were developed with broad graduate profile outcome statements, which allow them to be used across multiple contexts. Contexts were included on the qualifications at Level 4-6, to reflect what the graduate is being recognised for. At lower levels, the sector deem it important that people have an opportunity to explore different art forms before specialising in any particular Toi Māori. As such, education organisations are expected to cover more than one Toi Māori in programmes leading to the award of the New Zealand Certificate in Ngā Toi (Level 3) [Ref: 2789].

The National Diploma in Ngā Mahi a Te Whare Pora (Pae Tuatoru) (Level 6) [Ref: 0707] was replaced by the National Diploma in Ngā Mahi a Te Whare Pora (Pae Tuatoru) (Level 5) [Ref: 1640] at review in April 2011. The replaced qualification was designated to expire at the end of December 2015, so was not included as part of this review.

A New Zealand Certificate in Ngā Toi Māori at Level 2 is still under development.  As such, the current National Certificate in Ngā Mahi a Te Whare Pora (Pae Tuatahi) (Level 2) [Ref: 07053] is also not included in this review, but will be reviewed in the future development of New Zealand qualifications in Ngā Toi.

Category C qualifications will expire at the end of December 2019.
