The Skills Organisation (Skills) has completed the revision and rollover of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          December 2016

Planned review date                                                                           December 2018

Summary

The unit standards listed above have had very low or no use since they were first registered in 2011 by the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation.  In May 2014, as they were classified under the Occupational Health and Safety Practice domain, their standard setting responsibility was transferred to Skills.

In October 2016 it was agreed by the Hazardous Substances Working Group that these unit standards would be ‘rolled over’ with their review date set as 31 December 2018.  This creates a reasonable period for stakeholder discussion as to their future.

It was noted that, due to aging population and other factors, there was a growing exodus of Test/Compliance Certifiers for hazardous substances handling and a definite need in the next few years for training and upskilling in this area.  It was felt these low/no use unit standards could be reviewed in future in terms of these industry trends.

Main changes

·      The standards have been reclassified under the domain Hazardous Substances and Materials.

·      Legislation and other references have been checked and updated.
