Summary of review and consultation process
The review occurred as a result of the mandatory review of the suite of qualifications for the Fire Protection industry sector as part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TRoQ) process.
The review involved extensive consultation, communications, governance group and technical working groups’ meetings, workshops, and feedback from stakeholders.
The governance group, technical groups, and stakeholders confirmed and endorsed the four replacement and four new qualifications.
Main changes resulting from the review
Four National qualifications have been replaced by New Zealand qualifications as detailed below.

Reverse transition
The Installation strand in Version 3 of [Ref: 0863] contains a standard that will expire at the end of December 2018. People wishing to complete this strand in this version of the reviewed qualification will need to gain credit for standard 18434 before it expires on 31 December 2018.
People who do not gain credit for standard 18434 by this date but who wish to complete this strand and version of the qualification can use the specified exemption – see table below.

Transition
The last date for enrolment into the reviewed national qualifications is 31 December 2017.
The last date for assessments to take place for the reviewed national qualifications is 31 December 2020.
People working towards the reviewed national qualifications may complete the requirements of that qualification or, where there is a replacement qualification, transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualification.
It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above transition arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to Competenz at the address below.
