Summary
The review of the unit standards was carried out to update skill and knowledge requirements for dental assistants, and to align them with changing protocols.
The reviewed unit standards will be used to assess achievement of people employed as dental assistants in dental therapy or general dentistry settings.
Consultation on the changes was carried out with dental and oral health stakeholders.
Main changes
· The outcomes of unit standards 27449-27453 were re-grouped and merged, resulting in replacement standards 29395 and 29454.
· Unit standard 27454 was replaced by unit standard 29453, which has an additional outcome, a new title, and carries more credit.
· Purpose statements, explanatory notes, outcomes, evidence requirements and range statements were amended.
The last date for assessment of superseded versions of the standards is 31 December 2018. Results will not be accepted where the assessment date is after the last date for assessment of superseded versions of the standards.
Category C unit standards will expire at the end of December 2018
