NZQA Māori Qualifications Services has completed the review and reclassification of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          September 2016

Planned review date                                                                           December 2020

Summary

The Tikanga unit standards were looked at as part of their review cycle. The majority of the standards were reviewed and amended to ensure that they are relevant and fit for purpose, and that their outcomes are achievable, coherent, and consistent with valid assessment practices.

In addressing issues identified during the review process, the Whakaruruhau recommended that standards, which were no longer fit for purpose, be replaced. The Whakaruruhau also identified a number of standards that weren’t a good fit for the Tikanga subfield and have reclassified them to domains that are more appropriate for their content.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of the reviewed standards is 31 December 2019. Results will not be accepted where the assessment date is after the last date for assessment of superseded versions of the unit standards.

Main changes

·      The titles of unit standards 16051, 16052, 16053, 16067 and 16139 were changed in line with amendments made to the standards or to better reflect the standards’ outcomes.

·      Level of standards 27118 and 27124 were decreased to better reflect the complexity of the evidence required. The Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR) reference on standards were corrected to CMR 0226 (Base Scope of Assessment for Schools (BSAS)).

·      Credit values were increased for standards 16051, 16052, 16055, 16067, 16139, 27118 and 27124 to better reflect the time required for learning and assessment.

·      Changes to purpose statements, explanatory notes, outcomes, evidence requirements, and range statements were made to ensure clarity for users.

·      Unit standards 27119 and 27130 were designated expiring with no replacements.

·      Unit standard 16137 was replaced by new unit standard 29555.

·      Unit standard 16073 was reclassified from the Tikanga Issues domain to the Māori Management – Generic domain. Unit standards 16047, 16048, 16049 and 16050 were also reclassified from the Tikanga Issues domain, but to the Te Mātauranga Māori Whānui domain.

Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2019
