Summary of review and consultation process
In 2011, NZITO began the review of the Occupational Health and Safety qualifications as part of the targeted review process required by NZQA. This process was passed over to The Skills Organisation in 2014 to continue through to completion. The review of the industry skill requirements for Workplace Health and Safety involved a range of industry stakeholders including industry training organisations, polytechnics, private training establishments, industry specific experts, subject matter experts and government departments.
The review was based on feedback received from stakeholders after a sector wide consultation process. This has resulted in the following New Zealand qualifications:
· New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 3) [Ref: 3533]
· New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 4) [Ref: 3534]
It should be noted that further development for the proposed Level 5 and the Level 6 qualifications will continue throughout 2016. For more information on this review process, please contact The Skills Organisation using the information provided in the report below.

The last date to meet the requirements of the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2020 at which point the qualifications will be discontinued.
The replacement qualifications are substantially different in design and content to the National Certificates. Therefore, it is recommended candidates currently enrolled in programmes leading to the national certificates complete their existing programme by 31 December 2020.
Please note that unit standards 26551 and 26552 in the elective sections of the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 1) [Ref: 1111] and the National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) (Level 3) [Ref: 0801] discontinue in 31 December 2019.
