Careerforce has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          April 2017

Planned review date                                                                           December 2022

Summary

The standards reviewed have a focus on hearing therapy and have been used to assess learner achievement in the National Diploma in Hearing Therapy (Level 5) [Ref: 1007].  As a result of the targeted review of qualifications (Levels 1-6), this Level 5 diploma was replaced by the New Zealand Diploma in Hearing Therapy (Level 6) [Ref: 2859].

The review of the unit standards above was carried out in order to ensure that they are appropriate to be used for assessing learner achievement in a programme of industry training which will result in the award of the replacement Level 6 diploma.  The reviewed standards were designated expiring.

New standards were developed to provide a more coherent grouping of knowledge.  The new standards use terminology and language that will enable assessment against current and future protocols and equipment.

The level is higher and credit value greater for several new standards than for expiring standards with similar outcomes to more accurately reflect the level of achievement and the actual learning time taken for learners, as well as the incorporation of theory and practice integration requirements.

Consultation on the changes was carried out with key stakeholders.

Main changes

·      16 standards were designated expiring and will not be replaced.

·      12 new standards were developed, and listed in the Hearing Therapy domain within the Health, Disability, and Aged Support subfield.

Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2019
