Summary of review and consultation process
The Infrastructure Industry Training Organisation (Connexis) took responsibility for the Telecommunications sector in June 2016. Industry stakeholders communicated the need for the review of the Telecommunications Level 3 qualification because it did not fully meet the current requirement for people to maintain the copper network and to build the optical fibre network.
Connexis commenced an early review of the Level 3 qualification with industry and provider stakeholders to work through the qualification outcomes and make them relevant for industry.
Main changes resulting from the review
· The need for strands in Copper Network Maintenance, Optical Fibre Network and Transmission was identified.
· Existing strands in Access Network Technologies, Core Network Technologies, Radio/Wireless Technologies, and Signals and Communications were no longer relevant for industry
